271 young people with a residence permit in Utrecht
271 people living in Utrecht aged between 13 and 18 have a residence permit. These are children who live with their parents, as well as unaccompanied minor foreign nationals (UMFNs).
36 places for UMFNs with residence permit
There are 36 places in Utrecht in small living units for UMFNs with a residence permit. UMFNs live in foster families or small-scale living situations until their 18th birthday. The aim is for them to integrate into society as soon as possible. When they turn 18, they can rent a home themselves.
Less knowledge of sexual health
Young refugees and UMFNs lack a great deal of knowledge about sexual health. Young people from Eritrea, in particular, constitute a risk group, in which young women are particularly vulnerable. They have an increased risk of STDs, HIV, teenage pregnancy, abortion and maternal mortality.
