The elderly are most likely to experience psychological violence at home, namely 4%. In the 2016 Health Survey, the elderly citizens living independently in Utrecht were asked about their experiences with elder abuse at home. The following forms of elder abuse were surveyed: psychological violence, physical violence, neglected in care, financially disadvantaged, restricted freedom and sexual abuse. It is more than likely that these cases are not always reported. The actual percentage of elder abuse in Utrecht is expected to be higher.

Among the elderly in Utrecht, this averages at 4%. Of the female residents aged 65 and over, 6% experience psychological violence at home. This is higher than among men.
